"Today, after a 72 hour shift at the fire station, a woman ran up to me at the grocery store and gave me a hug. When I tensed up, she realized I didn’t recognize her. She let go with tears of joy in her eyes and the most sincere smile and said, “On 9-11-2001, you carried me out of the World Trade Center.”
There in my hand was what seemed like a speckle of dust, slightly rocking and burnt. I studied it with a careful eye, but amidst my peers, I didn’t want to seem too engrossed in…the thing so without a thought I licked it off with a flick of my tongue. Triumph faded in seconds as the fire began burn the spot the pepper touched; in my haste to extinguish it i pressed my tongue against the roof my mouth (which gave it brief relief) only to sting and make me cough. Did I know what I’ve done? in my curiosity, yes. Peppers were an interest my father took, so any pepper I saw I didn’t hesitate to venture into tasting. However, even with the warning that preceded my intake, I proceeded to eat the speckle of ghost pepper gently rocking on my palm.
I’m invited to a friend’s b-day party tonight at at 6:30. This maybe the third party I was cordially invited to this month…the problem? My parents and I are planning a movie night and see Thor, which I’ve been dying to see since its trailer came out. Hopefully I could come up with a reasonable compromise. Decisions decisions.
Today was the last game of the soccer season. It has been an honour to have won our victories as well as an exprience to push each other to the fullest potential. We won some, we lose some, but what was important was that we did it together :)
After four years of being wired, I finally got them removed!!!! I’m uber excited, unable to keep my teeth out of anyone’s sight the entire day. It does, however, feel weird what with all the brackets constantly rubbing against the inside of my lips finally gone after fou years, it feels…numb. My gums are not much different, refamiliarizing themselves again with the bristles of the toothbrush ( they often bleed while brushing them). Maybe once in a while i’ll miss the loose brackets I often had that I play with during class, and the missing bracket on my front tooth that since last March, but for now, I feel liberated :D
Mother just made me “doorman” for the day in case our landlord comes by which means I don’t get the nap time I wanted after half of insanity workout in soccer. But what does it matter, I have my watermelon slices C;
I’ve said this more than any one can count on both hands and feet, but is it just me or does anyone else think that, with all the advancements being made in technology, that flying brooms, self functioning leather balls, and golden snitches can be developed to actually recreate a real life game of Quidditch? Call me hopeful, but I sure as hell do :D
It’s interesting to know how strong my resolve actually is despite the daily miles we run under 95 degree weather (plus the humidity, although I can’t say Arizona had any cooler temperatures than South Texas) and the conditioning that most often puts us into paralytic spasms the next day. Oh the joys of soccer. Even inside an air conditioned gym (in the unusual mercy of our coach), our bodies did not disappoint to tire or sweat, more so than ever even. That’s what I get for doing Nike power drills for an hour. No pain, no gain :)
So my Saturday night redeemed itself in the last one and a half hour of its existence. I could get used to watching SNL while eating butter pecan ice cream with mom even though the preceding hours may be painstakingly uneventful. In the end it’s worth it :)
